Winners of the Tesco Store Cleaning League 2008/09
“Clean stores for our customers and staff are important to Tesco. Carlisle Cleaning has consistently delivered clean stores and worked with us to innovate, increase productivity and reduce the cost of cleaning. We look forward to working even more closely with Carlisle Cleaning over the coming year.” Paul Thomas, Senior Buying Manager, TescoPraise for ‘Winning Mentality’ during challenging mobilisation
1 April 2008 marked the first working day for Carlisle Cleaning at Docklands Light Railway in the East End of London, just a short time after being awarded the contract for cleaning their entire railway for the next five years. Pulling out all the stops during the initial mobilisation, our project team patted themselves on the back, after passing the reigns to the new Contract Manager at the end of April. Our director of transport Simon Simcox said at the time. “We knew that this mobilisation was going to be challenging given the short time frame to transfer staff and put all systems, machinery and vehicles in place. Although we try to expect the unexpected, all hats of to our project team for not only their response to a very short start up, but also their ingenuity with some of the challenges faced during and after day one” Little did anyone know however, that just a few weeks later that the same team would be needed back on the railway to continue delivering the performance improvements from their own plan. Our very special thanks therefore go out to Neil MacDonald, Steve Oldham and John Oakes.Technology helps BAA people do a traditional job.
Gone are the days when those keeping an airport clean relied on a broom, a mop and a dust pan and brush – at Aberdeen they’ve undergone a technological revolution! Aberdeen’s customer services director Will Dougherty said: “We recently appointed a new cleaning contractor – Carlisle Cleaning. Instead of the paper trail and hand-written notes to capture our inspections, in has come our new system which is based around a simple handheld computer, programmed to our needs. ” Not only have there been major improvements in cleanliness, said Will, but the ease of reporting means Aberdeen always hits the targeted number of inspections. As a result the team has accurate data every day and can react as and when needed, based upon the most up-to-date information. Will added: “It’s a great system, very simple to use but also very, very effective. I’m delighted.”
